Friday, 27th September 2019

An inspiring hero story this week from Angela who participated in our Larapinta Trek a few weeks ago. Diagnosed over 8 years ago, Angela pushed through the challenging Larapinta trail walk with courage and determination and came away with some rewarding lessons about herself.

What drives your commitment to finding a cure?

I have been living with Parkinson’s for over 8 years, it is a progressive neurodegenerative disease which means my symptoms will get worse. As there is no cure for Parkinson’s there are times when I get quite sad. I am hopeful that in the future there will be better treatments and a cure for this insidious disease.

Why Shake it Up?

It is the country’s leader into research for Parkinson’s, has partnered with the Michael J Fox Foundation and 100% of all donations is directed into research.

Tell us about the Larapinta: Trek for Treatment.

What a challenging trek it was but so rewarding. Early morning starts but worth it to see the sunrises, steep climbs but great aerobic exercise and magnificent views. Being taken out of your comfort zone, being challenged, having the peace and time to reflect and discover that you might not be able to change a situation but you can adapt.

Want to join a walk for Parkinson’s?
Our next challenge is Tuscany 2023 where you will journey into the historical heart of Italy as you trek to fund cutting-edge Australian research to slow, stop and cure Parkinson’s disease.  Sound like the adventure for you? Find out more today.
