Our Hero Georgia joins the El Camino Trek for her Dad

Seeing a loved one diagnosed with Parkinson’s inspired Georgia to jump straight in and join the Shake It Up team in the El Camino trek for Parkinson’s.  After setting herself a fundraising target of $7000 Georgia is well on her way and in just 3 weeks has already raised over $5,300.

What Drives Your Commitment to find a cure for Parkinson’s?

My dad.

Why Shake It Up Australia?

Approximately ten years ago my dad was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and around the same time a cousin and a very close family friend were also diagnosed. Prior to this my only knowledge of PD was from seeing Michael J. Fox wriggle and shake in TV interviews. Once my dad was diagnosed I knew I needed to become more knowledgeable about PD so I could communicate with some confidence about the disease and also share my knowledge and understanding with friends and family so that we can all help make a difference – big or small.

Tell us what you are doing to Shake Things Up?

I am raising money for Shake it Up by participating in their Camino for a Cure trek in September.  You can support me by making a donation to my fundraising page “Georgia’s Camino for Parkie”

Greatest Reward?

Seeing the backside of this wretched disease. And also participating in the Camino for a Cure for such an important cause.

Best advice for people looking to Shake It Up?

You may not know anyone with Parkinson’s Disease right now, but most likely you will soon. Let’s find a cure for this neurological disease so that we can see the end of PD forever.
