FOR RESEARCHERS

In August 2011, Shake It Up Australia Foundation established a Partnership with The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF). Under this partnership Shake It Up disburses funds in Australia to grantees identified through the MJFF process.

This collaboration builds upon a strong base of promising Parkinson’s research in Australia and allows both groups to maximize the impact of capital raised from the Australian Parkinson’s community to accelerate better treatments on the path to a cure. Under the partnership all funds raised by the Shake It Up Australia Foundation and our supporters are directed towards research efforts in Australia.

MJFF provides scientific oversight and grant management of funded projects enabling Shake It Up to maintain our low overhead model whilst ensuring our funding reaches its target — improved therapies on the path to a cure for Parkinson’s — more quickly and with greater impact.

MJFF, the world’s largest private funder of Parkinson’s research, is dedicated to identifying and funding the science that can speed better treatments toward pharmacy shelves. Both MJFF and Shake It Up share a commitment to leverage donor-raised resources for potentially transformative research — sooner rather than later.

Fundamental to this partnership is Australian researchers applying for grants through the MJFF application process. Shake It Up does not accept direct applications for funding but rather funds those projects that are assessed and validated by MJFF.

Together with our partnership with The Michael J. Fox Foundation, we are the largest non-government funders of  Australian Parkinson’s research across multiple institutes.  Since 2011 we have co-funded over $15 Million into Australian Parkinson’s research targeted at better treatments and ultimately a cure.
