A few weeks ago, we featured the Moltoni family who had banded together to fundraise for Pause 4 Parkinson’s this year. Their fundraising was so successful that they managed to raise over $12,000 making them the second highest community fundraisers for this year P4P campaign! Congratulations to the Moltoni family. We chatted with them about how their events went and the support they received.
Tell us about your fundraising and how the journey started?
I began by speaking with my sisters husband Graham (as he has organised a fundraiser in the past)
He advised me to get a committee together to allocate tasks and then we should meet up every 2 weeks and as we get closer to the event – meet up once a week.
I spoke with my cousin’s Esther and Hannah Moltoni (Leigh’s sisters – Leigh was diagnosed with Parkinson’s at 30, now 40) and they were keen to jump on board and help out.
The first meeting we brainstormed ideas, venues and an event date.
Our initial idea was to have someone shave their head and do a quiz night for the actual event. Esther put her hand up to shave her head and we set about organising the quiz night by looking for sponsors, raffle prizes and a venue.
The Clancy’s Fish Pub in Fremantle supported the event by allowing us to use their venue for free. We charged people $30 a ticket and also had a raffle on the night with prizes donated from local businesses.

How did it all go in the end?
Esthers head shave goal was $5000 and our total goal was $10000 for event including the head shave. About a week or 2 before the event Esther had already reached her goal of $5000 and by the end of the night on 30th April Esther had raised over $7000 alone. From selling tickets online prior to the event, and raffle tickets on the night we raised over $4000. Anthony Cooper had one of his friends put his hand up to raise some money in a short period of time to shave his head into a mullet before he flew back home over seas. He raised $1200. Altogether we raised over $12000 in total.
The night was very successful and everyone had a good time.
