During April Shake It Up ran our annual Pause 4 Parkinson’s campaign for the third consecutive year with a particular focus on World Parkinson’s Day on 11 April. We are delighted to report that the campaign was a tremendous success with thousands of people around the country bringing together friends family and work colleagues to raise funds and awareness for Parkinson’s research.
The overall result is still being tallied up but we are excited to share a few of the remarkable individual achievements:
- Michelle, who’s dad lives with Parkinson’s, got on the front foot with her local businesses, family and friends and raised over $700 through raffles and a donated jersey sale.
- Alice McDougall who was babysitting her nieces when she read about Pause 4 Parkinson’s on Instagram and decided to bake up biscuits and brownies and sell them on her street. She and her little helpers raised $160.
- The beautiful Brady family who made masses of cupcakes and trekked through town to sell them and raised over $650.
- Olivia, who’s husband was diagnosed at the age of 40, who raised over $950 through a sausage sizzle.
- Vaughan Prout and the Pedal 4 Parkinson’s team tirelessly rode their bikes from Melbourne to Sydney to raise over $7600 during the massive ten day course.
- Craig Hatch who hosted an event at his house and another at his work place on Barrow Island and raised the incredible amount of $16 941.
This is just a sample of the many and varied events held across the country. To every one of our event hosts and all who attended or supported a fundraiser we thank you. It is the collective effort of all these people that will help to advance Parkinson’s disease research. We are so grateful.

Shake It Up Founder, Clyde Campbell, appeared on The Daily Edition and was heard across the country during various radio interviews. Our CEO, Ben Young also participated in radio discussions to highlight the prevalence of Parkinson’s in the community and the wonderful research being undertaken right here in Australia.
