Pause 4 Parkinson’s 2020 – What a roller coaster!
Wednesday, 29th April 2020

When 2020 started, not many of us could have predicted what was headed our way. The COVID-19 crisis has significantly changed our lives and altered the course of this year for everyone. For us at Shake It Up, we were just finalising plans to launch Pause 4 Parkinson’s 2020 for April around World Parkinson’s Day when government directives sidelined all events for the foreseeable future.

While 2020 was not our normal Pause 4 Parkinson’s campaign, we have been overwhelmed by the response from our supporters. And although we couldn’t host our Pause 4 Parkinson’s fundraising events, we were thrilled to hear from so many of you who are looking forward to getting back involved with fundraising once restrictions are lifted and have also been looking at how to host a virtual event.

Our corporate sponsors rallied around Pause 4 Parkinson’s this year, providing $114,000 in support. We’d like to thank all our amazing sponsors whose funds donated will make a difference towards research for better treatments for Parkinson’s.

We’ve also been so lucky to have the commitment of our Campaign Partners – Ooh! Media and Pharmacy Club. Ooh! Media have supported Pause 4 Parkinson’s year on year, helping to get the message out into the media about Parkinson’s disease and what we can do to find a cure. Ooh! Media have donated media space including these fantastic billboards you might have seen around.

Pharmacy Club has also been integral in getting the message about Parkinson’s to pharmacists and pharmacy assistants. Thanks to them, our pharmacists will be better equipped to talk to patients with Parkinson’s and more confident to talk about Parkinson’s with their clientele.

Paws 4 Parkinson’s

Paws 4 Parkinson’s was an excellent initiative inspired by our ambassador, Kate Stone-Matheson. The grassroots community involvement in Paws 4 Parkinson’s was encouraging and motivational while we were all in a tricky situation as COVID-19 restrictions became harsher. Our pets are so special and bring such joy to us all. Thank you to everyone who posted their furry friends to share their story and bring happiness to others.

Virtual Afternoon Tea with The Governor-General

We’ll be finishing Pause 4 Parkinson’s this year with a virtual afternoon tea with our patron, the Governor-General of Australia. His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and our Founder and CEO Clyde Campbell will meet together virtually on Thursday 30 April from 3.15 pm till 3.45 pm.

If you missed the event you can watch it here:

Shake It Up are committed to building on the momentum in Parkinson’s research and pushing ahead towards better treatments that will slow, stop, and ultimately cure, Parkinson’s disease. But this isn’t a solo effort – we need all of our supporters on board because together we can make this happen. A big thank you again to everyone who participated in Pause 4 Parkinson’s – we are already looking forward to relaunching again next year!
