Pause 4 Parkinson’s 2017 raises $170,000 for research

Now in its third year, Pause 4 Parkinson’s is officially cemented in the Shake It Up event calendar. In recognition of World Parkinson’s Day, the month of April saw over 4000 Australians either attend events, host events or participate in athletic challenges for Shake It Up’s annual Pause 4 Parkinson’s campaign!

Pause 4 Parkinson's 2017Shake It Up are thrilled to announce that this year we have raised $170,000, with 100% going directly into Australian Parkinson’s Research thanks to our Founders who personally cover all overheads of the foundation. On behalf of the Shake It Up team and the entire Parkinson’s community we say thank you to all of our supporters who made this possible.

Shake It Up would also like to take this opportunity to thank our wonderful corporate sponsors, including our Platinum Sponsor Westfield, Gold Sponsors Active Tree Services, Channel 7, Noel & Sue Holmes and Telum, Silver SponsorsAirtasker, Alwyn, Shaw and Partners and  TEVA and our Bronze Sponsors Armstrong Real Estate, Flowers Across Sydney, Hutchinson Builders, LJ Hooker Lennox Head, PwC and 2nd Chance Building Services.

Our fantastic supporters raised much needed funds for Parkinson’s research and awareness, in their workplaces, homes and community venues across the country. Once again, we were really encouraged by the broad range of events our supporters hosted, confirming that Pause 4 Parkinson’s really does offer everyone an opportunity to get involved. Events big and small this year included; pool parties, sausage sizzles, cake stalls, cupcake drives, morning teas, a Melbourne to Sydney bike challenge, a baseball tournament, cocktail parties, lunches, wine nights and more.

Whilst the research funds and awareness building are both invaluable outcomes of the Pause 4 Parkinson’s campaign we are always delighted to hear about the positive experiences of our event hosts. Here’s a snapshot of what hosts had to say about their involvement in Pause 4 Parkinson’s.Vaughan Prout Cycles from Melbourne to Sydney for Parkinson's

Lexie – “I was so excited with the result of our bake sale”

Vaughan – That feeling you get when you’re nearly at the end of a big adventure.  Thank you to my sponsors, family, friends and new friends who helped me along the way.

Sharon – “One of our regular members’ 6 year old son asked her what was Parkinson’s. She then googled it and let him read all about it. That happened the night before our special event. Pause 4 Parkinson'sThe next morning he awoke and grabbed his money box and shook all of the coins from it. He then placed the coins in a zip lock bag and gave it to his Mum and said – ‘Please give this to Nanna Jean”. Nanna Jean is my Mum and part of the reason for our fundraising event. How cool is that for a 6 year old?”

Rosemary – “What a wonderful response we had. Our friends were so happy to see my husband and to donate to this important cause. Over the years we have been so fortunate to have the amazing support of so many beautiful people in our lives. They came out to the car and had a photo with my husband, our daughter and myself to record the fun. So after 3 1/2 hours we were able to collect $656 Amazing!!”

Kelley – “The day was great with my niece singing, which my Mum would have absolutely loved!”Brady Family gets behind Pause 4 Parkinson's

Craig – “We all had a great time fundraising for Shake it Up and are all very proud of the amount we raised”

Marc – “It was an absolute joy to run this event for such a great cause!”
