Pause 4 Parkinson’s Wrap Up

SandraElm1Coinciding with World Parkinson’s Day, the month of April saw over 4000 Australians participate in Shake It Up’s annual Pause 4 Parkinson’s campaign!

Collectively this group of people were responsible for raising awareness of Parkinson’s and the need for more research in workplaces, homes and community venues right across the country. In the process they, along with our wonderful corporate supporters also managed to raise in excess of $160,000 for Australian Parkinson’s research. On behalf on the entire Parkinson’s community we say thanks to all who made this result possible.

This is only the second year of Pause 4 Parkinson’s and the sensational result gives us at Shake It Up confidence that it will continue to grow as a major event in the Australian Parkinson’s calendar.

We were particularly encouraged by the broad range of events our supporters hosted, confirming that Pause 4 Parkinson’s really does offer everyone an opportunity to get involved. Events this year included; 80s discos, sausage sizzles, morning teas, bike riding challenges, cocktail parties, swimming challenges, lunches, wine nights, golf days and more.

Whilst the research funds and awareness building are both invaluable outcomes of the Pause 4 Parkinson’s campaign we are always delighted to hear about the positive experiences of our event hosts. Here’s a snapshot of what hosts had to say about their involvement in Pause 4 Parkinson’s.

Angie – ‘Will definitely be hosting another morning tea next year. My mum was diagnosed with Parkinson’s late last year and it has been a learning process. Let’s hope we can find a cure.’

Kelley –It was a huge success!  Thanks for organising such a great fundraising opportunity and I’m already looking forward to next year.’

George and Sarah –My daughter has raised funds for Pause 4 Parkinson’s as I have Parkinson’s and that makes me really proud of her. Many thanks to all the other people who gave their time to be involved in this.’

Marcela –It was awesome! It was successful and we had a few Raffles.’

Amelia –Canossa Private Hospital – The morning tea that we hosted was a big success and all that attended had a lovely morning enjoying our hand baked goodies!’

Brooke –We had a very successful morning tea with 17 adults, 2 kids and 2 babies attending! We asked for a gold coin donation as we had arranged some raffle prizes and we had a GoFundraise page. Thank you for making the whole process so easy and for communicating with us on a regular basis, especially as this was our first event.’

Kym from 2nd Chance Building –It was so lovely to meet other people and their families who are dealing with this disease as well.  Will definitely try and make it bigger and better for next year!  Thank you for supplying so many printouts and forms to make the process easy.’
