Our Shake It Up hero this week is Mick Marrs. Through his automatic monthly contributions Mick is making a tangible difference in the fight to cure Parkinson’s. As well as being easy for Mick he also knows his regular contributions allow the foundation to budget and plan for future research projects.
What Drives Your Commitment to find a cure for Parkinson’s?
My good friend Clyde and other acquaintances of mine are affected by Parkinson’s. I want to see them beat this terrible affliction, so by helping to fund the extensive research programmes I feel that I am helping to achieve that aim. The outcomes of the research projects will benefit people all over the world and with the added advantage of the partnership with the Michael J. Fox Foundation the results can be shared much more quickly.
Why Shake It Up Australia?
I wanted to consolidate my various charity donations into one Australian entity. The Shake ItUp Australia Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation established in 2011 to promote and fund Parkinson’s disease research in Australia and I know that 100% of my donations are going into the research projects.
Tell us what you are doing to Shake Things Up?
I attend various fund raising functions/events when they are hosted locally. These functions are lucrative to the research programmes, they are great fun and they are informative. I have learnt so much more about Parkinson’s by attending these events.
Being able to help. Being part of the process in searching for that cure.
Best advice for people looking to Shake It Up?
Donate to the Foundation by periodic direct debit. This really helps the Foundation when they are budgeting for future programmes. You won’t have to worry about forgetting your regular donation, the bank will do it automatically at the frequency specified by you and all donations over $2.00 are tax deductible.
