This week’s Shake It Up Hero is also a Shake It Up Board member, choosing to participate in Pause 4 Parkinson’s by hosting his very own fundraising golf day!
1. What Drives Your Commitment to find a cure for Parkinson’s?
I never really appreciated how many people have Parkinson’s. I always thought it was a isolated disease that Mohammed Ali , Michael J. Fox and a few others had but when I heard the numbers (over 30 Australians diagnosed per day) I remembered what my father used to say to me quite often…… “Son, the more you will learn in this life, the more you will realise how much you don’t know”.
Other than donating to a several charities, at the end of each financial year I’ve never really got involved with a charity or a cause. Shake It Up’s cause is a good cause. We are ‘having a go’ without government support but with great founders, an excellent Board and very generous supporters.
2. Why Shake It Up Australia?
I knew Clyde Campbell and his family and I witnessed what he was trying to do…..I thought I might be able to help. Shake It Up is not a cause built to raise money to assist the 80,000 Australians currently suffering with this disease. Shake It Up’s quest is narrow and deep and targeted on raising funds that will be aimed specifically at finding a cure for Parkinson’s.
3. Tell us what you are doing to Shake Things Up?
My key objective is to assist the foundation in raising funds so we can undertake ‘worlds best’ Parkinson’s research here in Australia.
4. Greatest Reward?
Meeting very special people who are genuine and who care about doing something to help their fellow man / woman. Plus as a side note ….. I like their courage.
5. Best advice for people looking to Shake It Up?
I know as a result of my involvement in Shake It Up that the old saying ‘the more you give the more you receive’ has been reinforced many times / is spot on. It is true that the giving heart receives.
Registrations are now open for Pause 4 Parkinson’s 2017. Learn more about how your can get involved and help shake things up for a cure.
