Shake It UpDate December 2017

Dear Shake It Up Supporter,

As we head into the festive season I would like to thank our Shake It Up community for your continued support of the foundation. Your support whether it be by competing in a community fundraising event, organising your own event or being a donor has helped us to fund vital Australian Parkinson’s research and we are making progress.

Since we started Shake It Up in 2011 we have co-funded with The Michael J. Fox Foundation (MJFF) over $6 million in Australian based research across nine institutes. Shake it Up feels strongly that we have a significant role to play in promoting Parkinson’s research in Australia and in facilitating collaboration between Australian Researchers.

The foundation acts as a conduit between Australian Researchers and MJFF and promotes the grant opportunities to our accomplished and advanced research institutions. Our work in this area has seen a significant increase in scientific focus on Parkinson’s research.

We have also been working diligently on a collaborative international linked clinical trial project with the Garvan Institute, MJFF and the Cure Parkinson’s Trust UK on repurposing a number of drugs that have already been approved for clinical use and we believe have potential to slow or stop the progression of Parkinson’s. This trial will be launched in 2018 and we will be sharing more news about this with you in the New Year.

On behalf of the team at Shake It Up I would like to wish you all a very safe and happy festive season with your family and friends. Thank you again for your support and we look forward to sharing more exciting research outcomes with you in 2018.

Warm regards
