Dear Shake It Up Supporter,
We have certainly hit the ground running in 2018 with lots of positive things happening in all directions within the Foundation.
In December we received a very generous gift from Dr Richard Balanson towards our Linked Clinical Trials project. We are extremely grateful to Dr Balanson for his support. The Shake it Up Foundation has commissioned a Strategic Development Review to provide due diligence for this study in which four potential drug treatments will be trialled in patients with more established Parkinson’s Disease. This approach would be an international first and importantly will set Australia on a path of conducting further studies, which we hope will bring new treatments to slow Parkinson’s into clinical practice. Shake it Up has appointed Professor Simon Lewis (Brain & Mind Centre, University of Sydney), Professor Dominic Rowe (Macquarie University) and Professor Glenda Halliday (Brain & Mind Centre, University of Sydney) to coordinate the NSW arm of this project. For more information about this project and how you can help please contact Vicki Miller.
We are also pleased to announce funding of two new Australian research projects with The Michael J. Fox Foundation this year totalling $600,000. You can read more about these projects here.
We would not be able to fund these projects without the wonderful support of the community. People like The Spano Group who raised over $54,000 at their annual race day in late 2017. We are indebted to them for their very generous and enthusiastic support each year. Last weekend Fugen Constructions encouraged their staff members and families to participate in the Cole Classic and raised over $24,000 for Shake It Up. A real team effort for which we are most appreciative.
We also have some very active fundraisers who are preparing to trek the El Camino in September this year. Would you like to join them? I know walking the El Camino is on many people’s bucket list so why not add it to yours now and help raise funds to find a cure for Parkinson’s. Check out the itinerary and how you can join us.
Each year we celebrate World Parkinson’s Day with our Pause 4 Parkinson’s campaign which runs throughout the month of April. We are seeking corporate sponsors and community fundraisers to get on board this year and help us reach our fundraising goal of $350,000. It’s a big target and we need lots of support to reach it so please think about how you can get involved.
Thank you for your ongoing support from all of us at Shake It Up.
