In this Edition: Parkinson’s Symposium, Genetic Links, A Day at the Races, Managing your Relationship and more…

Dear Shake It Up Supporter,

Leading Parkinson’s experts and advocates from around the world gathered at Van Andel Research Institute (VARI) in Grand Rapids last week for Grand Challenges in Parkinson’s Disease, a scientific event highlighting the latest breakthroughs in Parkinson’s research and treatment. I was invited to attend both the patient advocate and scientific symposium and I am really excited about the prospect of bringing Linked Clinical Trials to Australia.  These trials will look at existing drugs already approved for use in humans which could also have the potential to slow or stop the progression of Parkinson’s disease. You can read more about the symposium in this newsletter.

Together with my family we once again took part in the Blackmores Sydney Running Festival in September. This is such a wonderful community event and we were blessed with good weather and surrounded by friends and supporters. A big thank you to those who chose to run and fundraise for Shake It Up and also to the many volunteers who helped out on the day. These community athletic events are a great way to support your favourite charity and there are many different events to choose from whether you enjoy walking, running, cycling or swimming. Check out the community events calendar here and support Shake It Up in your favourite event to help us raise funds for research.

A diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease is life changing and can impact over time on your close relationships. There are a couple of stories in this newsletter to help with questions when you are first diagnosed and helpful tips to support healthy relationships. I hope you find this newsletter interesting and helpful.

Thank you from all of us at Shake It Up for your continuing support.
