Sisters Bake to Help Find a Cure For Parkinson’s

Our heroes this week are sisters Rachel and Charlotte who whipped up some yummy desserts to sell at her work cafe and also asked people to donate their coffee change to help raise funds for Parkinson’s research.  While their motivation initially came from their Mum who lives with Parkinson’s they found the whole experience so rewarding when hearing other peoples stories.

What Drives Your Commitment to find a cure for Parkinson’s?

Our beautiful Mum drives us to help find a cure, not only for her daily struggles but for all the others that battle every day too.

Why Shake It Up Australia?

We love the founders’ story, the fact that he makes sure donations go to where they are meant to go, and the affiliation with the Michael J. Fox Foundation makes them front-runners in the industry.

Tell us what you are doing to Shake Things Up?

For the month of April we baked yummy desserts to sell at the Cafe we work at. We also asked our customers to donate their change from their coffees.

Greatest Reward?

Being able to donate more than I thought we would raise, and talk to so many people about Parkinson’s, hear their stories and also share my Mum’s. It was great to bring awareness to everyone we had contact with.

Best advice for people looking to Shake It Up?

Do it!  Tell as many people as you can, you’ll be surprised how many people have a story about a loved one.

We found it so rewarding to talk to customers about Parkinson’s and for them to share their stories and shine more light on Parkinson’s disease.

There are so many ways you can get involved and make a difference.   Host your own event, fundraise in an athletic event or make a donation.   We need your help, together we can make a difference to over 80,000 Aussies living with Parkinson’s.
