Afternoon tea raises $3200 for Parkinson’s
Wednesday, 12th November 2014

On Saturday 1 November, Jane Young (mother of Shake It Up CEO, Ben Young) hosted a delightful afternoon tea at the home of her mother, Ellie Spiro raising $3,200 for the Foundation.

In the beautiful surrounds of Ellie’s abundant and colourful garden and character filled home the 50 guests were treated to a day of decadence. Sandwiches, sweets and French Champagne were the order of the day along with a raft of beautiful raffle prizes donated by local businesses.

Ben Young presented an overview with respect to Parkinson’s and the research being funded by the Foundation. He also explained to the guests that it is events just like this that make it possible for Shake It Up to continue our quest. Ben said, ‘We know that there are hundreds of thousands of Australians just as passionate about finding a cure for Parkinson’s as us and it is events like this that unite the Parkinson’s community and make funding research possible.’

When asked about the experience of hosting an event for Shake It Up Jane said, ‘I have been blown away by the generosity, support and community spirit of friends, family and local businesses. It is this support that made hosting the afternoon tea so enjoyable. My advice to others thinking about doing something for Shake It Up is to start talking to your network of friends and family about it and there is sure to be something that you can do – we can all make a difference.’

It should be noted that Jane’s efforts were made even more impressive given that she was forced to have have surgery quite suddenly just 36 hrs before the event! Well done Jane and get well soon!
