Jackson’s big haircut for Parkinson’s
Thursday, 15th December 2022

Our fundraising hero this week is Jackson, who cut off his mullet in November to raise funds for Parkinson’s research. Jackson had been growing the mullet since his Dad was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and raised $1,770 for Shake It Up by cutting it off. Thank you, Jackson! We asked Jackson a few questions to learn more about his Parkinson’s story.

What inspires your commitment to a cure for Parkinson’s?

My dad was diagnosed with Parkinson’s 3 years ago and it’s been a struggle.  I would love to see a cure so that other’s don’t have the difficulties he does.  I hope that research develops more effective treatments before my dad’s disease gets worse.

Tell us about your fundraising and the big haircut experience.

My parents and I sent the link for for my fundraising page to family and friends.  So many people were so supportive and generous. I had been growing my mullet since my dad’s diagnosis and my parents hated it.  So when I finally decided to cut it off I thought it would be great to raise some money in the process.

What advice do you have for others looking to make a difference?

Every little bit of fundraising counts.  I didn’t think I would raise this much but I just wanted to feel like I had contributed to this cause. I am really happy with the outcome.
