Dallas Rides Towards a Parkinson’s Cure

Thursday, 17th September 2026

The Buderim 9 is an iconic cycling event that brings the Queensland community together to support the causes that matter to them. Over 76km, nine hills, and 1885m of elevation, over just 3 hours, the cyclists challenge themselves physically and mentally to raise funds for their chosen charity. For one of this year’s participants, Dallas Blacklaw, the challenge is a deeply personal one. He’s not only aiming to complete the course, but to contribute to global efforts to slow, stop and cure Parkinson’s, in support of his wife, Catrina.

“I’m fundraising to show support for my wife as she navigates her Parkinson’s diagnosis, and to help in the search for a cure”, Dallas says. “Every pedal stroke is for a brighter future.”

You can support Dallas in his fundraising here.

We spoke with Dallas to learn more about his inspiring ride for a cure.

Dallas, tell us what inspired you to take on this challenge?

My inspiration for wanting to raise support for Parkinson’s research is my amazing wife Catrina. She was diagnosed with Young Onset Parkinson’s  in February 2025. An athlete in her own right, she has and continues to show a resilience and drive that inspires us daily. Catrina’s ‘can do’ attitude, and her willingness to proactively seek out ways to improve her situation, is extremely admirable and helps to give us all hope and strength.

Why did you choose to support Shake It Up Australia?

Like many people when they hear “Parkinson’s”, they think Michael J Fox. I was no different, I read all his books to get an insight into Parkinson’s’, and it helped immensely. When I found out Shake It Up Australia was partnered with The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, naturally I wanted to throw my support behind Shake It Up.

Our mission is to slow, stop and cure Parkinson’s. What does mean to you?

Knowing Shake It Up’s mission is to slow, stop and cure Parkinson’s gives us faith that the funding is going into projects and research that is making a true difference. Research is already making huge advancements in the understanding of Parkinson’s.

To slow the effects, or to find a cure, would be life altering in the best possible way for us.
