Isobel Moore

This month, we take the opportunity to farewell and thank Isobel Moore, who has been an integral part of the Shake It Up Australia Foundation for the last 8 years. As Fundraising and Events Manager, Isobel has worked closely with our community to connect with people, bring ideas to life, support them along their fundraising journey and increase the impact of the Foundation.

We spoke to Isobel about her time working with the team, and her take on what’s next for Parkinson’s research.

What have been some of the highlights of your time with the Foundation?

When I look back on eight years with Shake It Up, I feel incredibly grateful. It’s been a period of immense purpose in my life. There have been some big moments during this time, including being here for the discovery of the first biomarker for Parkinson’s, but beyond the milestones, the greatest highlight has been the people — meeting individuals and families impacted by Parkinson’s, hearing their stories, and being trusted to play a small part in their journey.

What are you most proud of in your time at Shake It Up?

I’m really proud of the momentum Shake It Up, our team and the community has been able to build together for Australian research, which is delivering real outcomes for people with Parkinson’s and will change the future.

Working here has always felt meaningful because every action was driven by purpose. I’m also proud of the small, everyday moments of connection I’ve had with our community – time spent on the phone and in conversation, sharing about the experience of Parkinson’s from all perspectives, and dreaming about what better treatments would mean to us all.

What have you learned through your conversations with our community?

The Parkinson’s community is one of the most resilient and generous communities I’ve ever encountered. I’ve learned that behind every diagnosis is a story of courage — not just from the person living with Parkinson’s, but from their families, carers, and friends. I’ve been constantly inspired by the determination to turn challenges into action, whether that’s through fundraising, advocacy, or simply supporting one another. There is an incredible sense of hope and commitment to progress, and that has stayed with me.

What do you see in the future for Parkinson’s research in Australia?

I’m genuinely optimistic about the future of Parkinson’s research in Australia. We are seeing increasing collaboration between researchers, clinicians, and organisations, which accelerates progress. Recent advances in research give real hope that we are moving closer to better treatments and, ultimately, a cure.

Do you have a message you’d like to share with our Shake It Up fundraisers?

The connections I’ve made within the Parkinson’s community are something I will always treasure. While my chapter at Shake It Up is ending, my belief in this mission is not. I will always be part of this collective moving towards our shared vision.

To our incredible community — thank you. Your commitment, creativity, and generosity have made my role here possible. Every event hosted, every dollar raised, every conversation started has made a difference and it’s been such a pleasure to help bring your fundraising ideas to life. I will always carry the stories, friendships, and purpose I found here with me.

The team at Shake It Up Australia thank Isobel for her dedication to our vision of a world without Parkinson’s, and her important contribution to the progress of the Foundation.
