Since 2015, the Queensland Cricketers’ Club (QCC) Ladies Lunch has been bringing women together at the Gabba for a day of connection, inspiration, and generosity. What began as a vision to create a more welcoming space for women at a traditionally male-dominated venue has now become a much-loved annual tradition — raising funds for community causes while celebrating the power of women supporting women.
This year marked the 10th annual Ladies Lunch, with guest speaker Georgina Lewis choosing to shine the spotlight on Parkinson’s research through supporting Shake It Up Australia Foundation. With our founders Clyde and Carolyn Cambpbell in attendance, this incredible day raised over $10,000 for Parkinson’s research.
We spoke with the QCC team to learn more about the event’s history, its fundraising efforts, and its advice for other organisations looking to make an impact.
The QCC Ladies Lunch was created in 2015 when newly appointed CEO, Lachlan Furnell, came on board with a vision to create a space where women felt comfortable at our venue, one historically known for its strong male patronage at the Cricket and AFL. The idea to put on an annual event, raising money for our community for women only, was born and our first event was held in July, 2015, with guest speaker and author Rebecca Sparrow, raising money for the Lady Musgrave Trust. It continued to grow in popularity and attendance each year, with 2020 the only year we had to skip due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 2025 saw guest speaker Georgina Lewis host our 10th annual Ladies Lunch.
We typically align the charity with our guest speaker, allowing them to choose something they are already aligned with or something close to their heart. This year, Georgina Lewis chose Shake It Up Australia, as she had lost a close family member in recent years to Parkinson’s.
We conduct raffles on the day with up to 25 prizes donated from local businesses, and push these from arrival, throughout lunch until the end of the event when the raffle is drawn!
We had a number of stalls this year, for guests to do some gift shopping before and during the lunch, with our partners this year being:
LouisB – Limoncello
Nosferatu Distillery – Gin
Bask Collective – beautiful handmade handbags
Park Lane Jewellery
FancyNators – custom made fascinators – all proceeds of which are also donated to domestic violence charities.
Start small, but start somewhere! Everything makes a difference, and you can be assured to be blown away by how people in the community want to help, give back and do things for a good cause. Many people get caught up in their day to day lives and don’t know how to contribute to local and national charity organisations, but find it easy to support when it is a corporate event they are attending and it is right there in front of them, making it easy for them to be able to donate.
The QCC Ladies Lunch continues to prove how one event, powered by community spirit and generosity, can have an extraordinary impact. With its 10-year history of supporting important causes and its latest contribution to Parkinson’s research, the event embodies the difference that can be made when people come together for a purpose. Donate today and help us keep the momentum from this lunch going!
