University of South Australia Research Study: Quality of life in Parkinson’s Disease Patients

Friday, 24th October 2025

Researchers at the University of South Australia are inviting participants for a research project titled, “Quality of life in Parkinson’s disease patients”. Involvement in this study will provide important insight on what it is like to live with Parkinson’s disease.

You can also find out how to join a study on Gender in Parkinson’s here.

What is the purpose of this research?

The purpose of this research project is to investigate the quality of life of people living with Parkinson’s disease. Since Parkinson’s disease is primarily known as a ‘movement’ condition, there are many aspects in life beyond this that are overlooked. Existing knowledge may also suggest that women experience different symptoms to men with Parkinson’s disease, although less is known about differences in other living aspects. Therefore, the team will be separating the results by sex to identify whether there are any differences in quality of life. Your contribution to this research project will help expand the current understanding of what it is like living with Parkinson’s disease. This will help researchers address what sex differences could exist in the condition, so they can work towards better support and resources for people with Parkinson’s disease.

Who is eligible to take part?

Anyone who is over 65 and has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease (but not Young Onset Parkinson’s Disease).

What does participation involve?

Your participation will involve answering 3 online questionnaires that discuss living with Parkinson’s disease. These questions will discuss your ability to complete daily tasks, your mental/physical health, and relationships. Your responses will be kept anonymous. Altogether, this should take no longer than an hour.

If you wish to participate further, there will be a follow-up interview, where researchers will discuss similar subjects to obtain more in-depth answers. If this sounds like something that may interest you, there will be an email provided at the end of the study that you can contact for more information.

Who is organising and funding the research?

This research project is being conducted by PhD candidate Tahnee Thatcher. It is not being sponsored or funded as it will contribute to Tahnee’s thesis.
