Stepping Up For The Community - The Active Studio's Studio to Surf Fundraiser

The Active Studio, an exercise physiology clinic based in Miranda, is dedicated to helping people of all abilities achieve their health, fitness, and functional goals. Recently inspired by one of their clients who reached some impressive fitness milestones, the team decided to create their own community event: the “Studio to Surf.”

This fun run/walk will take place on 30 November 2024 at 8am, and will see participants make their way from the clinic in Miranda to the sunny shores of Cronulla beach. It’s a fantastic opportunity for their clients and community to come together, get active, feel good, and make a difference.

With this inaugural event, Active Studio hopes to raise as much money as possible to support three causes close to their hearts: Bears of Hope, Shake It Up, and the National Breast Cancer Foundation. We caught up with the Active Studio team to hear more about their inspiration and goals for this new event.

Tell us about your fundraising event – how did it come about, and what does it involve?

We were inspired by one of our clients who lives with a disability. Our lovely client wanted to train for a 2km run event with his daughter, so one of our staff, Matt, worked with him to prepare to be able to run this distance. The event went great! And the client said he felt ‘over prepared’ and Matt had done too well at his job.

So, we decided to put together a run/walk that our clients can participate in at any level – run if they want the challenge or walk to be part of the community. We are making our way from our clinic in Miranda to the beach in Cronulla. We have built such good connections with our community and clients that the opportunity to raise some money and try to make a difference at the same time was too good to pass up.

What inspires your commitment to fundraise for Parkinson’s research?

Some of our Active Studio family are personally affected by Parkinson’s disease and have family members with the condition. We also have some lovely clients who are affected and are doing everything they can to stay active and fit. Their commitment and effort inspire us so much and make us that much more grateful to be in a position to support people who will benefit from our exercise physiology services.

Why did you choose to support Shake It Up?

We wanted to support small charities that resonate with our team, clients, and community that might not get as much fundraising as the well-known organisations. We think our choice was a great one, and we’re excited to raise whatever we can and bring awareness to the organisation.

What is your advice for others wanting to make a difference?

Make the first move! We have been so inspired by our event and getting others involved. It is something we will definitely do more of and are excited to support in many more ways.
