Johnstones run for Parkinson’s
Thursday, 21st January 2021

Our heroes this week are Kerrie, Melissa and Nathan who ran the Virtual Melbourne Half Marathon together to speed up a cure for Parkinson’s.  They had a really great time together and raised $1,376 for Parkinson’s research.

Could 2021 be the year you challenge yourself for Parkinson’s? Find out more about how you can make a difference today.

What drives your commitment to a cure for Parkinson’s?

I didn’t know a lot about Parkinson’s until my Nana (Net) was diagnosed. Learning more about the disease and seeing her daily challenges increase is what drives me to support the quest for a cure. There is some exciting developments in recent years too!

What did you do to ‘shake things up’ and fundraise?

My sister came up with the idea to run the Melbourne half marathon to raise money. It was a lot of fun and a little painful!

What advice do you have for others looking to fundraise?

I don’t like asking people for money so it took a while to get started, when I did I only asked close family at first. However once you let go of this and start throwing it out there on social media its surprising where some of the most generous donations come from. I even had friends sharing my post to their friendship circles! You have nothing to lose by asking.

Check out some of the pictures from their run below!
