Sisters run for Parkinson’s
Friday, 14th December 2018

Parkinson’s is very misunderstood in the broader community and so often people with Parkinson’s suffer in hiding, afraid to let others know about their diagnosis. Finding ways to support someone with Parkinson’s can be difficult but 3 sisters, Bridie, Maddie and Steph, have formed a team to help raise funds and awareness for a special family member.

What Drives Your Commitment to find a cure for Parkinson’s?

My two sisters and I have teamed up to show our support to a very loved family member who suffers bravely and quietly with this horrible disease. Our team has grown to include my sisters’ partner, my husband and my son.

Why Shake It Up Australia?

We love the fact that 100% of the funds raised for a Shake It Up go directly to research, where it’s needed most

Tell us what you are doing/did to Shake Things Up?

Our team is entering a fun run where will proudly wear our Shake It Up race singlets to raise awareness. Who knows? There may be many more team races after that! We are blessed with fit and healthy bodies that work, just the way they were made to, so why not run for others who can’t because their bodies have betrayed them.

Greatest Reward

I will be immensely proud to line up at the start line with my family to honour someone so important to us all, that will be rewarding in itself. However, ultimately it will be incredibly rewarding just to know we’re doing our little bit to help.

Best advice for people looking to Shake It Up?

Shake it up and shake it loud! Parkinson’s is such a little understood condition; the general community can be forgiven for their ignorance. Get out there, educate people, raise awareness and funds for research to better understand, and hopefully eliminate, Parkinson’s.

You can make a difference towards a future without Parkinson’s by fundraising. 100% of all funds you raise will go directly to Australian Parkinson’s Research.
