How To Leave a Gift in Your Will

Leaving a gift in your Will is simple and 100% of your contribution will be directed to Parkinson’s research in Australia. If you don’t have a Will, you can create one today, alternatively, if you have already written your Will, then you can add a codicil (a short legal amendment) to your Will. Please note, that if you add a gift to your Will, Shake It Up is not notified directly. That’s why we’d love for you to let us know if you have decided to take this step.

A gift can be made in the form of a:

1. A residual bequest

You can make a gift of the residue (or remainder), or a percentage of the residue, of your estate once specific gifts and expenses have been taken care of.

2. A specified amount

You can make a specific bequest by simply stating the dollar amount in your Will that you wish to leave.

3. % of your Estate

A percentage of the overall value of your estate.

4. An asset

You may wish to make a gift of a specific asset, for example, real estate, shares, bonds etc

It’s important to talk to your loved ones about your intentions and let them know that leaving a gift to Parkinson’s research is important to you. This can help to ensure that your intentions and wishes are carried out.

Joan Leave a bequest to Parkinson's research in her will

Joan’s gift to the future

Joan Cormack lived with Parkinson’s for more than 20 years. Joan lived life with the belief she could beat Parkinson’s which made her determined to do everything she could to support Shake It Up and Parkinson’s research. A regular donor to the foundation, Joan wanted to make a difference when she departed from this life.

Joan’s gift included cash and shares. As a not-for-profit organisation a gift of shares to Shake It Up can be transferred in specie which reduces the impact of capital gains tax on your estate.

Joan’s bequest to the Foundation has left a lasting legacy in her name, supporting cutting edge Parkinson’s research that will benefit those living with the disease as well as future generations.
