Community Fundraising Highlights from 2022
Tuesday, 17th January 2023

Our community fundraisers are integral to the Foundation, raising vital funds for Parkinson’s research, and awareness in their communities about why we need a cure for Parkinson’s. We had so many fundraising highlights in 2022! Thank you to all our incredible community fundraisers whose hard work is contributing to our vision of a world without Parkinson’s.

We’ve compiled some highlights from our community fundraisers in 2022 to get you inspired to make a difference in 2023.

Pedal for Parkinson’s – Sarah Buckpitt

In May this year, Sarah Buckpitt and her cycling friends put together the Pedal for Parkinson’s Tasmania Tour. Riding 500km across 5 days, the team raised $19,543 for Shake It Up and Parkinson’s Research. Congratulations and thank you to all involved.

And some exciting news…Pedal for Parkinson’s Tasmania will be back for 2023! Follow the event on Facebook to keep up to date with all the information, and you can also purchase the 2022 tour jerseys with 100% of the sale price going to Shake It Up Australia.

Monkey Mia boys continue to fundraise for Parkinson’s

Long-time Shake It Up supporters the Monkey Mia boys were unable to plan a big adventure for 2022 but this didn’t stop them from fundraising!

After four years of incredibly successful fundraisers, totalling in excess of $185,000 raised for Shake It Up, (Monkey Mia to Byron Bay; Monkey Mia boys go bush again; Monkey Mia boys do Covid-19 desert trip; Monkey Mia boys do Simpson), they’ve raised another $23,400 this year!

Andrew Hall runs Gold Coast Half Marathon

This year, Andrew ran in the Gold Coast Half Marathon for Shake It Up. He had a great time at the event, finishing the half marathon in 1 hour 38 mins and raising $13,874 for Parkinson’s research thanks to his generous friends and family. Andrew was inspired to run the half marathon for his father who has Parkinson’s, and said, “Maintaining independence as you get older is really important. A cure for Parkinson’s would help those people suffering but also benefit the support networks that exist around the families who live with the disease every day.”

Cobes 4 Parkinson’s Challenge

Ben Coburn and his friends set themselves a huge challenge – a 1km Swim, 8km Run, and 3.5km Board Paddle. The team had a big group of supporters and very generous donors who helped them along the way. Together, they raised $27,673 for Parkinson’s research.

Ben and his crew also went on a social media spree to raise awareness about Parkinson’s. They interviewed doctors and people with Parkinson’s, as well as being interviewed themselves on local podcasts and radio to try and spread the word about Parkinson’s and how it impacts people and families.

Make a difference by fundraising for Parkinson’s in 2023! Organise a fundraising event for Parkinson’s Awareness Month in April 2023 or create your own initiative.
