Our heroes this week are Kitty and her dad Stephen who have taken on a huge project in their local community. Next April, Stephen and Kitty will be hosting the first ‘Shuffle 4 Parkinson’s’ together with the Lions Club Cabarita Beach & Pottsville Beach for Shake It Up’s Pause 4 Parkinson’s campaign. The event will include a 5km fun run/walk along Cabarita as well as a 500m ‘shuffle’ for anyone unable to run or walk with all funds raised going to Shake It Up Australia Foundation and the Lions Medical Research Foundation.

This is the fourth year that Kitty has hosted an event for Pause 4 Parkinson’s after a successful Pedal 4 Parkinson’s challenge, Bogan Bingo night and a cocktail party in previous years. Her inspiration is her father Stephen, who has Parkinson’s. She told us “As a nurse, I took the news pretty hard. Having looked after so many Parkinson’s patients, I knew what was to come. No thanks to a degenerative disease, it will only get harder for Dad.”

Shuffle 4 Parkinson’s aims to raise $10,000 for Parkinson’s Research and will be held on Sunday 5 April.
